The Puritans represented God as lovingly and sincerely calling sinners to come to Him. Joseph Alleine (1634–1668), a Puritan minister with a great heart for evangelism, wrote, “The God that made you most graciously invites you. His most sweet and merciful nature invites you. O the kindness of God, His boundless compassion, His tender mercies!”
