Footnote 11 Page 18:—

Pressing this Scripture upon an ardent dispensationalist, the writer was offered the amazing interpretation that the fire into which the wicked are cast is "the fire of the great tribulations". Malachi 4:1 was quoted to try and support this novelty: "The day cometh that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea and all that do wickedly, shall he stubble." The theorist forgot to complete the quotation: "the day cometh that shall burn them up…it shall leave them neither root nor branch." According to the futurists, multitudes of unregenerates from the great tribulation pass into their kingdom. But the prophet speaks of their everlasting destruction. Whatever else dispensationalists may lack they certainly do not lack inventive genius; they can produce all sorts of novel interpretations for Scriptures that were interpreted uniformly by all theologians before Darby's day.
